About ADU4Life
ADU4Life, Inc. is a construction company focused specifically on accessory dwelling units (ADUs). While they are capable of handling kitchen and bath remodels, the company was established to concentrate on ADUs and the range of benefits these structures can offer homeowners. Their journey in the ADU space began in 2016, and since then they have built up considerable knowledge and hands-on experience in this field.
The company is led by James Stalie, President, who brings over 40 years of construction experience to every project. ADUs have become his primary focus, and he places particular emphasis on communication and construction quality throughout each build. James was awarded the ESGR Patriotic Employer Award for providing employment opportunities to Service Members during and after their service.
Greg Popovich, ADU consultant and founding member of both Goldbar Builders and ADU4Life, Inc., has coordinated the builds of over 80 ADUs. Greg has been actively involved in advocating for ADU clients' rights and helping navigate the often complex permitting and regulatory systems across various cities and counties in California. He is also available for speaking engagements related to ADU development.
ADU Services Offered
ADU4Life offers three core service options to accommodate different client needs:
- Build Only – ADU4Life can construct from their own plans or from plans created by other design professionals. Their team has built over 75 ADUs to date.
- Design and Build – They work with quality designers to help manage costs and reduce unnecessary material waste. They can also value-engineer plans drawn by others to potentially reduce overall build costs.
- Design, Permit, and Build – A more comprehensive service that takes clients through the full process, from design through permitting and construction.
ADU4Life aims to make the process as transparent and straightforward as possible. They also indicate a willingness to step in and assist clients who may be experiencing difficulties with other ADU firms.
Among the types of ADUs they work on, the team has a particular interest in detached ADUs — which they refer to as cottages. Whether a client is looking for a backyard cottage, a granny flat, a Casita, or an in-law suite, ADU4Life offers site evaluations to help determine the most practical and cost-effective approach for each individual property.
Consultation for Cities, Counties, and Organizations
Beyond individual homeowner projects, ADU4Life also provides consultation services to city and county offices. Many municipalities in California continue to face challenges in streamlining their ADU approval processes. ADU4Life works with these offices to help simplify procedures for residents and assist in meeting California's Regional Housing Needs Allocation (RHNA) requirements.
