About Potato Construction

About Potato Construction Inc.

Potato Construction Inc. is a licensed, insured, and bonded construction company based in Rosemead, California. With over 15 years of experience in the industry, they have completed more than 300 residential and commercial projects across the western United States, including California, Washington, and Nevada.

Their motto, "When others can't, we can," reflects their approach to tackling challenging construction projects and finding practical solutions where others may fall short. The company places emphasis on timely delivery and cost-effective project management, aiming to build lasting relationships with their clients through a personal and dedicated approach.

ADU Construction Services

Potato Construction has developed a focused approach to accessory dwelling unit construction. As an experienced ADU contractor serving the San Gabriel Valley and surrounding areas, they work to minimize soft costs while maintaining full compliance with local city regulations. Rather than directing clients through an expensive architectural design process, they streamline the workflow to deliver comparable quality at lower overall costs.

An accessory dwelling unit (ADU) is a self-contained living space located on the same property as a primary single-family home. These units — also referred to as granny flats, in-law suites, backyard cottages, or Casitas — have grown in popularity due to recent legislative changes that have made the permitting and building process more accessible and affordable for homeowners.

As an ADU builder, Potato Construction handles several types of accessory dwelling units:

  1. Detached ADU: A separate structure built on the same lot as the main home, with its own entrance and amenities.
  2. Garage conversion: An existing garage is converted into a livable dwelling unit, often a cost-effective option for homeowners.
  3. Attached ADU: An addition to or conversion within the existing main structure, integrated into the primary living area.
  4. Detached ADU with JADU: A detached structure that also includes a Junior Accessory Dwelling Unit (JADU) — a smaller self-contained space within the main unit, suitable for multi-generational living or rental income.

ADUs can serve a variety of purposes depending on the homeowner's needs, including:

  1. Increasing property value
  2. Generating rental income
  3. Providing space for family members or guests
  4. Creating a dedicated home office or workspace

Potato Construction offers free consultations to help homeowners understand what is feasible on their lot, taking into account city requirements and available space. Their process includes assessing feasibility, designing the ADU to fit the specific property, and customizing the build to suit the homeowner's lifestyle.

Residential, Commercial, and Development Services

Beyond ADU construction, Potato Construction provides a broader range of building services. Their residential construction services are tailored to individual client needs, with attention to quality control throughout each project. On the commercial side, they adapt their services to suit a diverse range of clients and project types.

In recent years, Potato Construction has also expanded into residential and mixed-use real estate development, drawing on their knowledge of the local markets in which they operate. This combination of construction expertise and market familiarity allows them to take on development projects with a practical, grounded perspective.

Past ADU projects completed by Potato Construction span multiple cities in the greater Los Angeles area, including Alhambra, Arcadia, Monterey Park, Rosemead, Temple City, and Riverside — demonstrating their active presence as a backyard cottage builder and garage conversion contractor across Southern California.

"After overcoming every challenge step by step, our ADU project has finally passed all City inspections what an exciting milestone! This smooth completion would not have been possible without our outstanding project manager, Victor Liu, one of the most reliable and dedicated leaders at Potato Construction. Throughout the entire construction process, Victor demonstrated exceptional responsibility and professionalism. He patiently listened to the homeowners opinions and needs, tirelessly coordinated among different parties, and resolved every unexpected issue with precision. He often sacrificed weekends and late nights to keep the project on track even sending emails to Edison at 1 a.m. to push for faster meter installation. When conflicts arose between exterior sewer pipe outlets and appliance placement, he promptly identified the issues and handled them efficiently. From start to finish, Victor truly embodied professionalism, attention to detail, and dedication. He managed the entire process in an organized and reassuring way, ultimately delivering a result that deeply satisfied our whole family. This is not just a house its a work of craftsmanship infused with responsibility, care, and heart."

"Finally, my ADU construction was completed. Although there were some unpleasant issues with the plumbing and electrical subcontractors during construction, Victor, the project manager, resolved all of them. He was nice, patient, and responsible. Overall, this company did a good job. Recommended!"

"There are many things left undone and the company has not gotten back to me. The foundation is so low in comparison to the property that there is flooding anytime there is water, the ground wasnt leveled properly. The ground was not compacted properly. There are foundation holes where wires stick out underneath and is missing globs of cement. There is stucco stains on the walls, three colors on one wall in the front of the house, they refused to match. the address numbers are slipping out, there is red waterproofing staining the bathroom ceiling. Additionally the property incurred a lot of unnecessary damage. Mistakes were made with virtually every stage of construction. Even the size of the home was incorrect. Workers showed little to no respect for the property and left food trash, attracting flies. Unnecessarily cut down my dads lemon trees 10 times, each time it would grow back they would cut it again without permission. Cut the power lines to the new solar garage lights and the replacement is not attached to electricity! The roofers dropped nails in the pool and stained the new stucco with rust. The pool would have been covered had they told us they were coming that day. Since moving in there have been 3 leaks. The touch up crew left paint stains on the floor, and cleaned up some with my bathroom toilet paper, making an even bigger mess. Did not paint the front house right, they did not include the trim and left it completely undone. They took twice as long as they said they would and did not pay for every day after like they said. Added many additional fees for work, and did not follow directions. Used the wrong color to paint the adu house twice. One of the workers even picked their own purple color for the exterior trim. Spilled paint on my moms birdbath and instead of telling us they flipped it over and hoped we didnt notice. It was a special made antique and its completely ruined. Two months of living here and the grout is crumbling off one of the bathrooms. The back door handle is crooked and backwards, awkward to enter the house. The stair rail shakes and the floor is elevated and very uneven in many places. I would often find workers smoking in the house and I have kids with asthma! One worker brought 3 kids and a dog and they were dangerously playing at the construction site, when there were nails and dangerous trash everywhere. Two of the kids were nailing on the house too, they could have easily gotten hurt. The dog could have eaten nails, very unsafe. After trenching the dirt was not leveled properly, there is an ugly drain by the front door, and the laundry vent spews waste because its uncovered and not installed right. There is some error in the AC. Also the dry wall is very fragile and uneven in many places, there are still some exposed nail heads, the baseboards are uneven and some doors are peeling at the top. Communication and honesty were the biggest lack in this company. Very disappointed at how much it will cost to fix all these things, the front entryway is not leveled, and some pipes were left exposed by the foundation not being completely covered. I could go on, months and months of fighting and headaches. I would not do this, with this company again. Good luck Also the floors and cabinets they include in their package have toxic chemicals such as formaldehyde. Horrible If they had just fixed everything it would be so much better, but even asking them to fix things is a headache of itself. Im wasting so much money fixing all of these things they should have done right the first time"

"When I decided to build a detached ADU at my rental property in Pomona, I started researching and reviewing several contractors for the job. I ultimately decided to go with Potato Construction Inc., not only because of their competitive pricing but also because Sales Manager Patrick demonstrated his deep knowledge, provided a very comprehensive package detailing all the fees, and showed me comparable comps. The development of the ADU started in August, with Victor Liu stepped in as the project coordinator. He was knowledgeable and professional, and he was on top of everything. Throughout the entire project, he always responded promptly to any of my calls or texts, which was wonderful during the process to have someone so responsive. The best part is that Victor managed to pass the city inspection on the first try, significantly reducing the overall timeframe of the project. I'm attaching photos of our place; it's so spacious and nice. It's amazing what Potato Inc. were able to do with the space. With the upcoming solar installation, I look forward to the property being finally completed within the next few weeks. Potato Construction Inc. worked quickly and performed quality work. I am impressed and am now recommending them to all my friends and clients. I'm really impressed with how our space turned out. I'd recommend Potato Construction Inc. to anyone looking for a contractor."
