Krick Design + Build is a Colorado-based residential design and build firm specializing in small-scale architecture, design, and construction throughout the Colorado Front Range. Founded by Matthew Krick, a Licensed Architect and Registered General Contractor, the company brings experienced architectural and building excellence to every project — from the first sketch to the last coat of paint. How Krick Design + Build Got Started
The company was inadvertently born during the Covid pandemic. Matthew Krick used the downtime to design an accessory dwelling unit in his own backyard — motivated by the desire to generate passive income through short-term rentals while also adding a garage to his property. When construction began in 2021, neighboring homeowners took notice and began requesting similar projects. What started as a couple of neighbors quickly grew into dozens of clients, all seeking an accessory dwelling unit in their backyard.
At the time, Matthew was still employed at a larger architectural firm, designing hotels and apartments in downtown Denver by day while working on ADU projects in the evenings. By fall of 2022, the volume of residential projects was sufficient for him to launch Krick Design + Build as a dedicated business.
In the early stages, the firm focused solely on design, handing off construction to various general contractors. However, inconsistencies in quality and adherence to plans led Matthew to seek a better solution. He enlisted his father, Ken Krick, who relocated to Colorado, to help build out the construction side of the business. Together, Matthew and Ken established a seamless design-build operation capable of overseeing every phase of a project.
A Growing Portfolio of ADU Projects Across the Front Range
Since its founding, Krick Design + Build has continued to expand. Additional architects have been brought on board and partnerships with trusted general contractors have been established to meet growing demand. As of 2024, the firm has designed and/or built 57 ADUs across the Denver Metro area and beyond.
