About Peragallo Construction

ADU Construction Services by Peragallo Construction in Connecticut

Peragallo Construction is a family-operated construction company based in Cheshire, Connecticut, serving homeowners across Central and Southern Connecticut. Their service area includes towns such as Wallingford, Madison, Southington, Middlebury, and Guilford. The company builds custom Accessory Dwelling Units (ADUs) designed to add functional space, long-term value, and flexibility to residential properties.

From detached backyard cottages to attached in-law suites and garage conversion ADUs, Peragallo Construction manages each project from initial planning through final inspection. Their team handles permitting, zoning compliance, and construction, working within Connecticut's local building codes and municipal requirements.

Types of ADUs Peragallo Construction Builds

Peragallo Construction offers several ADU configurations to suit different property types and homeowner needs:

  1. Detached Backyard ADUs: Standalone accessory dwelling units built on the existing lot, separate from the main home. These are suitable for rental use, guest accommodations, or independent living arrangements.
  2. Attached In-Law Suites: ADUs connected directly to the primary residence, designed for aging parents, live-in relatives, or multi-generational households. These units are built to integrate with the existing home's layout while offering a degree of privacy.
  3. Garage Conversion ADUs: Converting an existing garage into a livable accessory dwelling unit. This typically involves insulation, utility connections, layout planning, and finish work. Garage conversions are often a cost-effective option since the base structure already exists.
  4. Basement ADU Apartments: Transforming unfinished or underused basement space into a code-compliant apartment. These conversions are well-suited for rental income or accommodating extended family members.
  5. Over-Garage or Upper-Level ADUs: Building an ADU above an existing garage or upper level of the home. This approach makes use of vertical space, which can be particularly practical on smaller Connecticut lots.

In addition to the structural build, Peragallo Construction also handles ADU exterior work, including siding, roofing, decks, and entryways, to ensure the finished unit is both functional and visually consistent with the main property.

The ADU Construction Process

Peragallo Construction follows a structured process for each ADU project:

  1. On-Site Consultation: The team visits the property to assess zoning requirements, evaluate the site, and discuss the homeowner's goals before any planning begins.
  2. ADU Design & Planning: A design is developed to fit the specific lot, lifestyle needs, and Connecticut building code requirements — whether the project is a granny flat, casita, detached unit, or garage conversion.
  3. Permits & Construction: Peragallo Construction manages all permitting and inspections. Construction is carried out using what the company describes as quality materials and skilled craftsmanship.
  4. Final Walkthrough & Support: Once construction is complete, the team conducts a detailed walkthrough with the homeowner before handover. Post-construction support is also available.

For homeowners considering an ADU in Connecticut, it's worth noting that construction costs in the state tend to be higher than national averages. Factors such as stricter building codes, permit requirements, utility upgrades, labor costs, and site-specific conditions all contribute to pricing. Most ADUs in Connecticut range from $150,000 to $350,000, depending on size, structure type, layout, and finish selections. Detached units and higher-end finishes typically fall toward the upper end of that range.

Garage conversions are generally the more affordable ADU option, as the existing structure reduces foundational costs — though upgrades for insulation, ceiling height, or utility compliance can still add to the overall budget. Costs can often be managed by keeping layouts simple, limiting square footage, and selecting mid-range finishes.

Peragallo Construction serves homeowners looking for a reliable ADU contractor across Cheshire, Wallingford, Madison, Southington, Guilford, and surrounding Connecticut communities.

"When I first found Peragallo and met Dan I thought the projects he showed me were too good to be true, but to my surprise they deliver exactly the quality they're showing you in that first meeting. Letting anyone in your house is intimidating, especially when they're going to be ripping pieces of it apart to rebuild, and I don't know that you could found someone more trustworthy: Their team is all local, and most of them are parents and family-men themselves, so they understood exactly what our concerns were. Any time someone mentions doing a kitchen or bathroom remodel, or building an addition, I tell them to at least call and get a quote from Dan: He's a good, honest guy, with plenty of experience who won't price gouge for a quick buck, but also will tell you straight up when someone else's price is too good to be true."
