About Avalon Building Systems
Avalon Building Systems is a modular home construction company serving the northeastern United States. Founded on principles of quality craftsmanship and attention to detail, the company specializes in prefabricated and custom modular homes. They are a VA Certified Builder with a service area that includes Massachusetts, Martha's Vineyard, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, Maine, Vermont, New York, New Jersey, and Connecticut. Set-only services are also available to the Island of Nantucket.
The company was founded by Paul Oliveira, a Civil Engineering graduate of Worcester Polytechnic Institute with more than 30 years of experience in the construction industry. After working across a range of residential and commercial projects, Paul turned his focus to modular construction in 2001, drawn by its efficiency and build quality. Senior Construction Manager Brian Kilduff brings over 35 years of residential and commercial construction experience and is involved in every stage of the modular building process, from design through delivery and finish.
ADU-Style Modular Floor Plans
Avalon Building Systems offers a selection of accessory dwelling unit style floor plans suited for a variety of needs and lot configurations. These modular ADU designs function well as in-law suites, backyard cottages, granny flats, or additional dwelling units on existing properties. Below is an overview of their available ADU-style models:
- The Falmouth – 1 bedroom / 1 bath, 619 sq ft. A contemporary design with a modern roofline, suited for narrow lots.
- The Paxton – 1 bedroom / 1 bath, 619 sq ft. A charming layout with an optional front porch, well-suited as a separate living space for family members.
- The Sturbridge – 2 bedrooms / 1 bath, 715 sq ft. A classic carriage house style with living space on the second floor, making it a practical garage conversion-style option.
- The Westerly – 2 bedrooms / 1 bath, 743 sq ft. An open-plan layout with bedrooms on opposite ends and a central living area. An optional front porch is available.
- The Yarborough – 2 bedrooms / 2 baths, 945 sq ft. A more spacious option with an open living, dining, and kitchen area, suitable as a standalone unit or an additional dwelling on an existing property.
These floor plans reflect Avalon's approach to offering cost-effective design solutions without compromising on architectural quality. As an ADU builder, they work within the modular construction model, which can reduce build time compared to traditional stick-built methods.
Services and Capabilities
Avalon Building Systems operates as a licensed and insured general contractor. They offer turnkey construction services in eastern Massachusetts, Cape Cod and the Islands, northern Rhode Island, and southern New Hampshire. This includes demolition, sitework, foundation work, mechanical and electrical systems, and all finish work such as siding, flooring, countertops, decks, porches, and driveways.
For clients outside this primary service area, Avalon provides set and delivery services throughout the northeastern United States. They are also able to work with plans prepared by an outside architect, or their in-house design staff can develop custom plans for residential and commercial projects.
All Avalon modular homes are built to meet or exceed applicable state and local building codes. Plans are approved by the state or a third-party representative prior to construction. The company also builds to Energy Star Standards and HERS requirements where mandated, and can assist clients in maximizing energy efficiency through design and construction decisions.
For those considering a detached ADU, casita, or similar accessory structure, Avalon's modular approach and range of compact floor plans offer a structured path from design to completion.
