About Better Together Builders

ADU Construction Services by Better Together Builders

Better Together Builders (BTB) is an ADU contractor serving clients who are looking to add functional, well-designed accessory dwelling units to their properties. Whether the goal is to create a rental income stream, house a family member, or simply gain extra usable space, BTB offers a structured process from initial design through to handing over the keys.

Accessory dwelling units add both economic and practical value to a residential property. In larger cities where affordable housing remains a pressing concern, ADUs represent a meaningful option for homeowners looking to make better use of their existing land and structures. A garage conversion, an underutilized backyard area, or an empty space on the property can serve as the foundation for a well-planned ADU build.

Floor Plan Options for Every Need

Better Together Builders works with clients to select a floor plan that suits their space and lifestyle. They offer several layout options, including:

  1. Studio Layout 1 – An open floor plan designed to make the most of a smaller footprint, featuring a full corner kitchen, a large bathroom, and wardrobe space.
  2. Studio Layout 2 – A layout that maximizes square footage with a more secluded kitchen area, while maintaining an open living space with a large bathroom and wardrobe.
  3. Single Bedroom Layout 1 & 2 – A private bedroom configuration with the option for a master suite, a full kitchen with island, and a large bathroom and wardrobe. This type of ADU is a practical way to add a self-contained living space without requiring additional land.

These floor plans are intended as starting points. Clients can work with BTB's design team to refine the layout to fit their specific space and requirements.

It is also worth noting that California homeowners may be eligible for the CalHFA ADU Grant Program, which provides up to $40,000 toward predevelopment costs such as site preparation and architectural design. BTB can help clients understand how this funding may apply to their project.

A Structured Process from Start to Finish

Better Together Builders follows a clear, step-by-step process for each ADU project:

  1. Initial meeting with a BTB ADU specialist
  2. Design phase with in-house designers
  3. Plan submission to the city
  4. Material sourcing
  5. Construction of the ADU
  6. Landscaping and hardscape work
  7. Final walkthrough and key handover

Their team includes designers, project managers, and office staff who coordinate each phase of the build. The goal is to keep the process organized and transparent for the homeowner throughout.

There are several practical reasons homeowners choose to build an ADU with Better Together Builders:

  1. Extra Income – Renting out the unit can help offset mortgage costs.
  2. Extra Space – A dedicated area for a home office, studio, or gym.
  3. Extra Savings – ADUs are smaller in scale and can often be built by converting an existing structure, reducing overall costs.
  4. Extra Family – A comfortable, private living space for aging parents or extended family members close to home.

Better Together Builders positions itself as a full-service ADU builder, handling the project from the earliest planning stages through to completion. For homeowners considering a garage conversion, a backyard cottage, a granny flat, or a detached ADU, BTB offers a coordinated approach with a dedicated team managing each step of the process.

"Updated March 2026 I hired Better Together Builders for a major home renovation and paid over 175,000 toward the project. While some work was completed, the overall experience has been disappointing due to prolonged delays, unfinished and substandard work, poor communication, and lack of accountability. Key examples from my project: Electrical work left incomplete and hazardous exposed wiring, requiring me to hire a licensed electrician at my own expense. Poor preparation and installation led to chipped slabs, misaligned cuts, unpatched drywall holes. The wrong type of water heater indoor instead of outdoor was installed, requiring full replacement. Partial demolition I paid 20k milestone but had to complete much of the ceilingwall demo myself. Large portions of kitchen and bedroom work abandonedincomplete. Communication was inconsistent I often had to chase updates, and there were barriers to effective discussion due to my deafness I rely on ASL as my primary language, but no qualified ASL interpreter was provided for contract explanations or change orders. This contributed to misunderstandings about scope and costs. Extended delays caused months of lost rental income and extra temporary housing costs. I ultimately stopped working with BTB and hired another contractor who completed the remaining work faster and to a higher standard. Update October 2025: Discovered additional serious issues, including the improper water heater install. Update December 30, 2025: Matter entered formal mediation unresolved. Update February 2026: Submitted BBB complaint ID 24475296, ongoing. BTB responded disputing claims, but I found their response unsatisfactory due to incomplete timeline and unaddressed issues. Update March 2026: BTB filed a lawsuit against me in Los Angeles Superior Court Case No. 25STCV36434 seeking to foreclose on a mechanics lien for approximately 113,000. On January 30, 2026, my attorney demanded binding arbitration at the BBB per the contracts arbitration clause, requiring a court-certified ASL interpreter for accessibility. The dispute remains unresolved, and my out-of-pocket repair and completion costs continue to rise. My lawyer and I have filed a Verified Cross-Complaint in the same court against Better Together Builders, Inc., ownerCEO Yaniv Brikman, project manager Alon David, and representative Lena Agbaria. My original review reflects my direct experience. Homeowners should carefully verify scopes, permits, installations, subcontractor quality, payment milestones, and communication accommodations before proceeding."

"I recently hired Better Together Builders for a complete backyard makeover, and Im thrilled with the results. They removed our old wood patio cover and built a new aluminum one with lights and a fan. They also installed beautiful new pavers and fresh artificial turf, completely transforming the space. The crew was professional, detail-oriented, and kept everything clean throughout the project. Communication was clear, and they made sure I was happy every step of the way. My backyard now looks amazing, and I highly recommend them for anyone looking to upgrade their outdoor space."

"Choosing Better Together Builders was a fabulous decision. The end result was a 'dream kitchen' for us! What Better Together provided in addition to flawless workmanship, was a sense of calm and confidence in what could have been a very stressful time. Every question, every concern was met with an honest answer a thoughtful solution. They would present various options and go over in great detail the potential pros and cons of each. They were always there even when they weren't on-site. Just a call or group-text away. Really a terrific team of workers who were always on time, very friendly, and consistently working toward delivering exactly what you have in mind. As much as I'm glad the job is done, I'll miss having the guys and gals around. They truly did go above and beyond our expectations."

"We recently completed a large renovation with Better Together Builders, and our experience was a mix of positives and challenges. There were definite strengths, but also areas where things could have gone more smoothly. Our main reason for choosing BTB was to add a front path. We repeated this priority throughout planning, yet it was continually downplayed. We were told it would be handled later, but once the project was finished, the path was never built. Now were left with a disorganized front yard and no path, the feature that started this project. A standout was Sam, who stepped in midway to manage the project. She was attentive, action-oriented, and genuinely helpful. Her involvement improved things noticeably, and we believe if she had been there from the start, the project would have ended on a stronger note. The quality of the work itself feels solid. Structurally, we feel safe and confident. Our foreman Ronan was fantastic, providing reassurance throughout. The team was diligent in addressing underlying issues with long-term fixes rather than quick patches. They stand by their work and have returned to address issues, giving us confidence the results will last. If you want a straightforward remodel without complex design, theyre a great fit. That said, their approach seemed less suited to projects with unique or custom design elements. My wife and I are artists and were hoping to build a more whimsical character house. It didnt become apparent until later in the project that decorative or outside-the-box features were not really their specialty, and that limited the final outcome in some areas. One area we struggled with was the lack of a clear, shared vision. We did not receive 3D renderings for key spaces like the bathroom and the front of the house, which led to misunderstandings, such as the tub ending up in the wrong place and a too-tight toilet placement. We had seen examples of their 3D work online, so we were hoping for the same level of support, but despite asking several times, it did not materialize for our project. As such, design communication wound up being a challenge. There was no real design work outside of the construction plans, so we never had a formal plan to guide the aesthetic details. I created a quick sketch of what the front of the house should look like, but it was not further developed by BTB into anything formal or detailed. We were repeatedly told that choice comes later when it came to several materials and details, which was then later forgotten. For example, we asked for simple decorative beams around the windows and walls. This request was treated as unusual, followed by an inflated quote that felt like they were signaling they were done with our project. We ended up installing them ourselves. Cleanup was another problem: cement spills, bubbling paint, staining, and sharp debris left in the yard delayed making it safe for our kids. We cant help but wonder if by making creative choices, we lost their social media appeal and, along with it, some of their interest in our project. A few tips for future clients: -Know what you want before meeting with their designers and state your nonnegotiables clearly. -Notify your homeowners insurance early as special coverage may be needed. -Be aware that once your home is in open construction, financial changes like refinancing new loans can be difficult to pursue. -Do not plaster skim coat walls if you have kids, as they chip easily. One suggestion to BTB is to include a thorough final cleaning in the project. Wrapping this into the cost and delivering a pristine, move-in-ready home would make the end result feel much more special and reflective of the investment. In summary, if you have a clear plan aligned with their usual style, you will likely be pleased. But if your vision leans creative or highly customized, you might encounter some frustrations along the way."

"Second review: May 2025 After a successful bathroom remodel with BTB, we hired them once again for another big task. We redid the flooring in the entire house, and they did an outstanding job in less than two weeks. The crew did everything - furniture removal, installation, new painted floorboards, and then put all of the furniture back in place patiently. Sam, our trusted project manager, was helpful and professional. She checked the progress in person daily and stayed in constant communication with us. No concern or question was too small! After completion, Sam continued to check in to make sure all was satisfactory. The flooring has made a huge difference in updating our home, and we will surely use Better Together Builders in the future. Thank you, BTB. First review: January 2025 From planning to design, from competitive pricing to execution, my experience with Better Together Builders proved to be excellent. Their work ethic, work quality, attention to detail, communication, and responsiveness are some of the things that made our two month main bathroom remodel extremely successful. This company has a tight team of specialists that take care of their respective jobs with pride and competency. Beginning with the initial consultation, the positive attitude and respect for our needs and ideas were impressive. The logical mechanics of the entire process and proposed budgeting were thoroughly explained both verbally and in written format. We knew exactly what to expect in terms of work stages and payment schedules. When unforeseen changes needed to be made, all addendums were presented for approval before proceeding. Once the process began, there was regular, timely communication and professional interaction throughout the project. BTB had multiple recommendations for various venders when needed, and BTB seamlessly helped to coordinate with them. Our outstanding, knowledgeable project manager, Sam, made herself and the team readily available. As I am quite detail oriented, Sams There is a solution for everything, mantra definitely helped to keep this remodel on track and less stressful. Isaacs contractor expertise, his sense of humor, and the precision of both he and his capable crew also made this a positive experience. Furthermore, the approachability of the owner and accounting team was also very much appreciated. Overall, I highly recommend Better Together Builders, and I will hopefully be working with them again in the future. We felt they were on our side to guide and problem solve to our satisfaction. They truly made us feel like we were their only clients although we know they have many!"
